Fi and Remi’s Cape Town Wedding

As a photographer shooting a friends wedding, you have a distinct advantage. The levels of trust and comfort are high, you can get up close to them without feeling invasive, they’ll tolerate your weird requests, etcetera. I love shooting friends weddings… especially when they’re in Cape Town! So when my Margaret River-dwelling buddies Fi and Remi asked me to shoot their wedding in this beautiful part of South Africa it really rocked my world. Schedules were juggled, appointments cancelled, apologies made, tickets booked and suddenly we were in a sunny Durbanville winery taking Fi and Remi’s wedding photos. It was awesome to watch them tie the knot, with a whole lot of family and friends around, many of whom had travelled gazillion miles to be there. Which in my book is a real testament to Fi and Remi and the positive influence they have on the people in their life. Love your work guys.

Gemma and Mark’s Wedding Photoshoot

It was a lovely sunny day when Gemma and Mark got married at the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club in Peppermint Grove. The timing of their wedding day was perfect - the bridal party photoshoot happened just as the sunlight took on it’s soft golden hues. That’s one way to make your wedding photographer happy! What made this shoot extra special is that Mark is a boat builder, and does most of his work at the Yacht Club. We were able to take the photos in and amongst the boats he works on every day, even hopping onto his own boat ‘Friendship’ to get some images. They turned out great… have a look:

Rachel and Francis’s Wedding Photos

I really clicked with Rachel and Francis from the moment we had our first chat about their wedding photography.They’re a super couple who were so excited about getting married, being together and planning their wedding, and this excitement really translated to the day itself. They got married surrounded by friends, family and blossoming apple trees at Core Cider House in a beautiful sweeping valley in the Perth Hills. It provided the perfect backdrop for their wedding ceremony photos, and of course for the bridal party photoshoot. The rain was good to us and stayed away, and we even got a small window of sunshine during the photoshoot. Good times! Have a look at some of the images below.

Chris and Clarissa’s Wedding Preview

Chris and Clarissa got married yesterday in the lovely Saint David’s Anglican Church in Ardross. August can be a gamble weather wise, but the rainy week emptied the skies and we enjoyed a lovely sunny Spring Saturday. Here’s a couple of images that stood out as I backed up the photos. Grant and Ana’s Wedding

Ana and I first crossed paths in a London pub where we served pints and jacket potatoes for minimum wage! Her big smile and laugh made even that drab English pub seem cheery, and now more than a decade later it was a pleasure to see that smile multiplied ten fold as she married Grant. Their wedding was absolutely amazing, reflecting their eclectic characters, Ana’s Columbian heritage and the lust for life that this special couple have. They transformed an orchard in the Roleystone hills into something of a roofless home, complete with comfy couches and carpeting, art deco ornaments (including antique cameras which I’m sure were there just to entertain the photographer , lanterns, a ten-piece band, petanque and a whole bunch of happy people. Old Coast Sunshine for the Collins’ Wedding

Phoebe and Brett had been planning this day since they met, so you can imagine their relief when crisp sunshine and blue skies greeted them on the morning of their wedding. The whole day followed in that same happy, sunny vein – from the fun times getting ready at Footprints Preston Beach Resort right through to the ceremony and reception at the Old Coast Brewery. Phoebe and Brett were awesome on the day, never letting things get on top of them and staying composed all the way through! They were willing to put in the extra effort to get great photos, which really made photographing their wedding a pleasure. Their great attitude, awesome bridal party and stunning location ensured the wedding photos turned out as good as the wedding itself!

Jim and Linda’s Beach Wedding

A beach wedding in Perth can often not live up to its expectations, and its normally the wind that ruins it. The breeze picks up as the day wears on, and by mid afternoon it can really be blowing a bit of a gale. But on a sunny Wednesday in late February the weather behaved itself… who knows why? Maybe because Jim and Linda had come all the way from Ireland to get married on that particular day. Maybe because they’re such nice people the weather just couldn’t possibly ruin their wedding. Probably both those reasons actually! With their close family and friends looking on, Jim and Linda got married on Trigg Beach under a clear sunny sky. And as you can see from the photos below, they really made that beach look good! It’s always a pleasure working with such nice people, and Im pleased as punch with how the wedding photos turned out. They kinda seem to typify ‘Australiana’, and hopefully provide fitting memories for Jim and Linda to take back to Ireland. Here’s a few of my favourites. Oh, the reception was at the Bluewater Grill in Applecross.

Phoebe and Brett’s Engagement Shoot

Phoebe and Brett booked their wedding photography with me about two years ago… these guys have got their planning down to a fine art! We haven’t caught up since our first meeting all those months ago, so it was nice to catch up and have a chat about their wedding day. They live down in Mandurah so it was real good of them to make the drive up for the photoshoot. Being the cruisy, surfing types, the beach was the natural location choice! And have you noticed how hazy the Perth sky has been lately? Smoke from a bush fire down south apparently. Well the haze acts as kind of giant softbox for the sun, taking away the harsh glare and shadows. It makes for some pretty sweet photos… here’s a few from the shoot that I like! Leslie and Matt’s Wedding

Matt and Leslie’s wedding fell on a beautiful sunny Saturday in December. Although the heat can be unbearable at this time of year, the wedding was in Fremantle so the infamous ‘Doctor’ blew in and cooled us all down! I had met Leslie and her lovely ladies at her place in Kardinya for some bridal prep shots, and then met Matt at the Fremantle Prison where the ceremony was held. It’s a great venue – quaint and picturesque and with a real sense of history. The streets of Fremantle are obviously a photographers paradise too, full of quirky corners and heritage-stye backdrops. So after the ceremony we were able to go out for a walk and get some cool photos with Matt and Leslie. Thanks for lett ing me be a part of your day guys, and all the best in your new life

Nicole, Dean and Addison’s Wedding Day

The good thing about being a tad slow at blogging is I get to relive a wedding day by going through the photos and chosing the ones to go up here. This morning it was Nicole and Dean’s wedding’s turn, and I was pleasantly reminded of how their daughter Addison would always smile and clap and giggle whenever she saw the camera! Couldn’t ask for a better little model really. Nicole and Dean, you guys weren’t so bad either (Sorry about making you sit for so long on the Vietnamese bicycle Dean!)Nicole and Dean got married at the All Saint’s church in their home neighborhood of Leeming, surrounded by close friends and family. The festivities continued in the garden of Nicole’s parents home just around the corner, and we stopped by a local park to get some photos of the happy couple.
