A few weeks ago when we did this shoot Josh had a lot going on – he had pulled off a serious training and dieting schedule with Paul Foote Fitness, was about to compete in his first IFBB bodybuilding comp AND his wife was due any day with their first baby. Fast forward a couple of months and his trophy for coming second in his category is safely in the trophy cupboard, training is still on track and the new addition to his family arrived safe and sound. Congrats on everything Josh… I think it’s safe to say you’ve still got a lot going on !

Here’s the final edits of his images from the fitness photoshoot. I love shooting in Conan Gym, the light is great and easy to manage and it has a gritty, textured feel to it. Most of these are shot with a single softbox and a second bare flash to provide side/back light where needed.

Chrissie’s Fitness Photoshoot

Last month I did a shoot with Chrissie Herbert, a Bikini model competitor who has that perfect combination of being an absolutely lovely person and really knowing how to rock a bikini! She was up for anything during the sunset photoshoot down at the beach in North Fremantle – jumping off rocks, getting in the water, you name it. For an hour and a half she owned the beach! We even had a passerby stop and ask who the supermodel was…

The day before the figure shoot Chrissie had competed in the bikini model division at the IFBB O’Mara Classic, her second competition in six months. She nailed it, coming second in her division – the result of six months training and dieting with the help of Dave Bayens at Primal PT. A testament to Chrissie’s nature is that during her training all her family, flatmates and friends started to make changes in their lifestyles and routines to become more healthy and active. Whether it was swapping meat pies for chicken salads or the car for the bike, Chrissie’s journey influenced them to the point that they changed too. Now that’s something to be proud of Chrissie!

Fitness Photography with Kate Reynolds

Well, Im back from three months of travels, and its time to do some work! Its a good chance now to reflect on my photoshoots from last year and start putting some work up online. This shoot with Kate Reynolds particularly stood out for me. Kate broke her hip two years ago and had to give up jogging… so she took up bodybuilding. She didn’t just take it up, she completely dominates it! Around the time of this shoot she had just competed in her first comp, taking out first place in the masters and third place overall in the figure category at the IFBB O’Mara Classic. On the back of this result she went to the IFBB Nationals in Sydney, and notched up a top five placing.

Thats some seriously good form… but the most impressive thing is how she manages to juggle her training with her family life. Not just any old family either, but the kind of family that has six kids in it! Amazing stuff Kate. Here’s a few of my favourites from the shoot.

Studio Shoot with Paul and June

I did this shoot with Paul Foote and June Meyers a while back, but with wedding season kicking off I haven’t had much of a chance to blog. I realised this morning though that we’re into November and Paul will be competing at Muscle Mania in Las Vegas this month! Its an amazing achievement, one that he can add to a seriously growing list of accolades. Good luck Paul, we’re all joining your lovely June in cheering you on every step of the way!

A Wilde Time

Peter Wilde (see what I did with the heading?) is one strong guy. A personal trainer at one of the best gyms in town, he regularly competes in bodybuilding competitions, and got in touch with me to do some shots around comp time. We did two shoots, one outdoors and one indoors at his gym. Here’s some of the photos we got…

I recently did another shoot with Paul Foote, a personal trainer, Natural Body-Building competitor and aspiring fitness model! Paul is a intensely committed dynamo, 100% dedicated to his own fitness and to the fitness industry. His long list of achievements is testament to this – in 2010 he bagged third place in the INBA WA Natural Physique Titles Novice Men, and in 2011 he went even better, taking out first place in the Powerzone Nutrition ANB Pacific International Championships Men’s Under 65kg and the INBA WA Natural Physique Championships Intermediate Men. And it seems hard work pays off – winning the 2011 ANB Pacific International Championships earned him the reward of being a Sponsored Powerzone Nutrition Athlete. 2012 will see Paul defending his Powerzone Nutrition ANB Pacific title in June on the Gold Coast, and he’ll also be competing in Muscle Mania in Las Vegas in November. Fitness competitors Amy and Daniela are in fabulous, competition-ready form, and what better way to celebrate all that hard work than with a photoshoot! They both wanted something a bit out-of-the-ordinary, so we decided on a combat/jungle theme for some late afternoon shots, and then once the sun had set we’d get some twilight bikini shots. The nighttime bikini shots really came out well, but its the ‘combat’ photographs we took earlier in the day that I love. The setting sun was throwing a golden glow through the thick trees of our (top secret!!) location, really highlighting the girls and giving the grass a weird green luminescence. Awesome time of day, and of course with Amy and Daniela the photos always come out well!

IFBB Fitness Pro Daniela O’Mara

Daniela (or Danka) O’Mara is something of a big deal in the Australian world of fitness. Originally from Slovakia but living in Perth now, she has been taking part in Fitness competitions since she was 13 years old… and boy has she got it down to a fine art. Elegant, graceful and artistic, her routines are pretty amazing. So much so that recently she was one of the select few people from around the world invited to Ohio in the U.S. to partake in the internationally renowned ‘Arnold Classic’. She wanted creative images that portrayed the elegance and strength of her physique… here’s what we came up with:

Move Fitness Photoshoot

Here are some of my favourite images from the photoshoot I did for Move Fitness last weekend. I think you’ll agree it would be tough to find better looking models than Caroline, Nikki, Bianca and Dave, so these photos kind of took themselves! We did the shoot at the Canning jetty in Como, a nice spot because of the variety of locations really close together. The strong wind kind of took us by surprise, making things a bit tricky and pretty chilly especially as we got close to sunset. It didn’t detract from the fun we had on the day, and it definitely didn’t detract from the images we got. These guys are in amazing shape, I’m astounded by how much work they put into their bodies. They all competed in the IFBB/WFF comp at the Italian club in Perth yesterday, and did phenomenally well. Dave took out first place in the ‘First Time Body Builder’ category, Bianca came first in the ‘Sports Model’ category, Nikki came fourth in the ‘Novice Figure’ category, and Carolyn came fourth in the ‘Sports Model’ category! Amazing stuff, well done guys!
